REP Home Schooling

At Saint James, home schooling is an option but not considered optimal for most students. Our Religious Education Program is designed to provide an atmosphere where our children can grow in faith in an environment where they not only learn from their catechists, and the formation tools provided, but through engagement with their classmates. However, if due to extended illness, injury, or scheduling issues a child will miss a large number of classes, a family may decide to home school for all or part of the 2025-2026 school year. Students may homeschool during part of the year and rejoin the class as long as their work is up to date.

This is a serious responsibility, and families are expected to commit to completing lessons in a timely manner.

Homeschooling during a sacramental year is discouraged.

If you would like to home school your child:

  • Notify the Office of Faith Formation so that appropriate materials may be put together for your child or children
  • Complete the lession for the week assigned (you will be given the necessary materials).
  • Place the completed lesson in your child's binder (completed binder is to be brough to class when your child returns to class or at the end of the term)
  • Document your child's progress
    • you make take a picture of the completed assignment or
    • your child may go online and complete the online assessment (see instructions provided) and email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  • All Makeup emails are to be sumitted to late than 12:00 pm on the Tuesday following the Sunday assignment
  • All work must be completed and submitted weekly or your child may be in jeopardy of  not progessing to the next year

HOME SCHOOLING during Confirmation Year

Confirmation preparation is a very important process. There are additional responsibilities during the sacramental preparation process.

These include the following:

  • Confirmation Candidates are expected to attend all Confirmation activities and complete all Confirmation assignments.
  • Candidates are expected to attend in person 8 classes (listed on the syllabus) that are specific to Confirmation.
  • All Confirmation Candidates will participate in a Confirmation interview with a member of the parish staff.

If the candidate misses these events for any reason other than illness, or family emergency his or her readiness for Confirmation may be in jeopardy.
